I met Andy when Hilary Monk and I were running a Wildlife Watch group for kids aged 8-12 at Fermyn Woods country park. Andy was an occasional guide for butterfly walks and dawn deer stalking. He was so obviously a good person, in love with life, in harmony with nature, bubbling over with enthusiasm – and keen to pass it all on. Once he was telling a group of us about the scarcity of purple emperor butterflies when a specimen flew past his nose. He gave chase, caught it gently in a net and showed 15 children a creature they had never even imagined before. It is so sad that he has died at such a young age, when he had so much more to contribute to his own family and the world. Rupert Paul, Oundle
